A YouTube link pasted into Notion gives you a player and nothing else — none of what the video actually says is in your workspace. This guide covers every way to save a YouTube video to Notion, including how to get the full transcript in as timestamped, searchable text.

The manual options — and where they fall short

Pasting a YouTube link into Notion gives you a player, not the content. Notion turns the URL into an embed you can watch inside the page. That's genuinely useful for reference, but nothing the video says enters your workspace — Notion search will never surface that video from a phrase spoken in it.

YouTube's transcript panel is a wall of one-line rows. Open the ⋯ menu under a video and choose Show transcript, and you can select and copy it. What you get is every caption line stacked one per row, with no paragraphing — and either timestamps on every single line or, if you use Toggle timestamps, none at all. Pasted into Notion, it's technically searchable and practically unreadable.

Watch Later and bookmarks keep the video outside Notion. Adding it to a playlist or bookmarking the URL is fine for "watch this eventually", but the content never reaches your notes — and if the uploader pulls the video, your reference goes with it.

Tips and common pitfalls

• No captions means no transcript — but the page still saves. If a video has neither uploader captions nor auto-generated ones, Clipno skips the transcript silently and saves the title, URL and metadata as usual. Nothing fails.
• Reload the tab after installing or updating. The YouTube transcript is read by a script injected into the page. A tab that was already open before you installed or updated Clipno hasn't got it yet, and the transcript will come back empty until you refresh.
• Bilibili works through the same flow — and gets chapter headings. Clipno fetches Bilibili subtitles too, and because Bilibili exposes chapters, those become headings that split the transcript into sections. YouTube transcripts currently arrive as one continuous run of timed paragraphs, without chapter splits.
